Trade Details
ANTONIO BROWN BROUGHT IN BY THE RAIDERS! Wednesday, March 13, 2019
The Oakland Raiders acquired wide receiver Antonio Brown from the Pittsburgh Steelers for a third-round draft pick in 2019 and a fifth-round draft pick in 2019.
What does it give the Las Vegas Raiders?
The Antonio Brown saga is officially over, and he will now become a vital part of the Raiders' resurgence (which may not occur completely until the team moves to Las Vegas in 2020). Brown instantly becomes the Raiders' best player and the key cog on offense. It will now be up to quarterback David Carr to get him the ball early and often so Brown can make a major impact with his new team. He comes with some risk, due to his different persona, but should be well worth the compensation surrendered.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Steelers?
In the end, the Steelers did as well as they could have expected with this trade. Ideally, they wanted a first-round draft pick from the acquiring organization, and they would have preferred to trade Brown to an NFC squad. Alas, neither happened. That said, Pittsburgh can now move on from Brown and are still a contender in the AFC without him. The key here will be the continued development of new No. 1 wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster, plus the play of veteran QB Ben Roethlisberger.
Fantasy Impact
Brown's fantasy stock will likely fall a bit after moving from Pittsburgh to 'The Black Hole'. Still, he is among the very best fantasy wide receivers and should continue to put up excellent numbers. Plus, he has much to prove to his doubters in 2019. Smith-Schuster will likely see more targets and could emerge as one of the best receivers in the game for many years to come now that he has escaped Brown's shadow. Roethlisberger also figures to be hurt by this trade, as his fantasy value has now lessened with one less elite wideout to throw to. Meanwhile, Carr's stock is on the rise as long as he finds instant chemistry with Brown (and avoids more slumps, which could cost him his starting job).
