DENVER DEALS FOR RIGHT TACKLE VELDHEER Friday, March 23, 2018
The Denver Broncos acquired offensive tackle Jared Veldheer from the Arizona Cardinals for a sixth-round draft pick in 2018.
What does it give the Denver Broncos?
The Broncos are hoping the move to Denver will revitalize Veldheer's career. The veteran tackle, who turns 31 in June, has struggled in the recent past but used to be a very capable pass blocker. Perhaps Denver's zone-blocking scheme will be a good fit for Veldheer.
What does it give the Arizona Cardinals?
The Cardinals were happy to unload all of Veldheer's hefty salary-cap hit for 2018, so the sixth rounder acquired for his services is viewed as somewhat of a bonus for Arizona. The Cards will move forward with veteran Andre Smith at right tackle--at least for now.
Fantasy Impact
There is obviously no fantasy value to speak of with Veldheer, though his ability to protect Case Keenum (Denver's new starting QB) will be important in 2018. His run-blocking is not great, so that is not good news for C.J. Anderson and Devin Booker--Denver's top two rushers.
