GIANTS GET A STAR IN LINEBACKER OGLETREE Wednesday, March 14, 2018
The New York Giants acquired Alec Ogletree and a 7th-round draft pick in 2019 from the Los Angeles Rams for a 4th-round draft pick in 2018 and a 6th-round draft pick in 2018.
What does it give the New York Giants?
His contract is expensive, but Ogletree has a chance to be a key player for the Giants. His ability to anchor a defense--while providing consistent pressure on the pass rush--makes him a nice fit overall for what the Giants will be trying to do on 'D' in 2018. Expect him to be stellar for New York.
What does it give the Los Angeles Rams?
The picks the Rams receive here--Nos. 135 and 176 overall in this year's NFL Draft--aren't high, but the key here for L.A. is dropping Ogletree's massive, eight-figure salary. This move suggests the Rams might be making some changes to their defensive approach, since Ogletree is a star player and a major difference-maker.
Fantasy Impact
Expect Ogletree to continue providing excellent fantasy value in leagues that include Individual Defensive Players, with a good chance he'll boost his overall numbers (especially his sacks). Also keep an eye on Samson Ebukam, who has a chance to be Ogletree's replacement with the Rams (and might enjoy a bit of a breakout in 2018).
