The New York Giants acquired cornerback Ross Cockrell from the Pittsburgh Steelers for a conditional 7th-round draft pick in 2018.
What does it give the New York Giants?
A former starter in Pittsburgh, Cockrell should provide quality depth in the Giants' secondary this season. New York felt a little vulnerable behind starters Eli Apple and Janoris Jenkins, plus slot corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Therefore, Cockrell should be a solid addition.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Steelers?
The Steelers recently added veteran corner Joe Haden from the Browns, so his arrival ultimately made Cockrell expendable. The Steelers knew they were likely going to have to release Cockrell on cutdown day, so they did well to at least get back a draft pick for his services.
Fantasy Impact
Cockrell has virtually no fantasy value left in IDP leagues, since he is no longer a starting cornerback.
