The 49ers will look at Tomlinson as a backup guard who can provide some depth for both left guard Zane Beadles and right guard Brandon Fusco. He may be an upgrade over the injury-riddled and inconsistent Joshua Garnett as the No. 3 guard on the squad.

Tomlinson was a big bust in Detroit, so the Lions did well to at least secure a decent draft pick for his services. Detroit is set at offensive guard with Graham Glasgow and T.J. Lang manning the left and right guard positions on the team. There was no need to keep Tomlinson.

There is no fantasy impact for any party involved following the trade that sent Tomlinson to San Francisco.
