SEAHAWKS TRADE FOR O-LINEMAN TOBIN Monday, August 21, 2017
The Seattle Seahawks acquired offensive lineman Matt Tobin and a seventh-round draft pick in 2018 from the Philadelphia Eagles for a fifth-round draft pick in 2018.
What does it give the Seattle Seahawks?
The recent injury to offensive lineman George Fant created a need for help on the Seahawks' offensive line, and Tobin is a massive, experienced, somewhat above-average option. He can play both tackle and guard, and is a ready veteran who can step in and help right away. Tobin will challenge Rees Odhiambo for Fant's left tackle position this season.
What does it give the Philadelphia Eagles?
Tobin was a regular starter for the Eagles in 2015 but became mostly a backup last season, so it's clear he fell out of favor in Philly. This moves suggests the Eagles are fairly confident in going with some less-experienced offensive linemen as key backups (including Dillon Gordon and Taylor Hart), while saving some salary. The draft pick upgrade is a solid bonus.
Fantasy Impact
Offensive linemen do not generate stats in most fantasy leagues, and even when/if they do it is hard to recommend Tobin as a preferred fantasy option. That said, he should give the Seattle offense a small boost with his veteran presence. There's little to no fantasy impact on the Philly side of the deal.
