CHARGERS ACQUIRE QB JONES FROM BILLS Wednesday, July 26, 2017
The Los Angeles Chargers acquired quarterback Cardale Jones from the Buffalo Bills for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2019.
What does it give the Los Angeles Chargers?
This deal makes sense for the Chargers on multiple levels. Not only does Jones give L.A.'s newest NFL team a project quarterback to develop for the future, but he also provides depth under center behind vets Philip Rivers and Kellen Clemens. Jones additionally reuintes with Chargers new head coach Anthony Lynn, who was Buffalo's offensive coordinator last season.
What does it give the Buffalo Bills?
The Bills look set at quarterback with Tyrod Taylor, T.J. Yates and rookie Nathan Peterman (making Jones the odd man out in the rotation). With that in mind Buffalo saves a little salary here by moving Jones, while getting a conditional pick for the future and opening up a roster spot.
Fantasy Impact
Jones doesn't have much experience as a starter (either in the NFL or in college) so he's obviously a development prospect at this point. That said, he has ideal NFL QB size and a big, accurate arm--so keep him in mind for fantasy drafts a few years down the road. His arrival hurts the chances of rookie QB Mike Bercovici making the Chargers' final roster.
