RAMS MOVE O-TACKLE ROBINSON TO LIONS Thursday, June 15, 2017
The Detroit Lions acquired offensive tackle Greg Robinson from the Los Angeles Rams for a 6th-round draft pick in 2018.
What does it give the Detroit Lions?
The Lions have a pressing need for an offensive tackle because usual starter Taylor Decker may miss most of the upcoming season following shoulder surgery. That doesn't mean the disappointing Robinson will necessarily step in as his replacement, but he does at least get somewhat of a re-start on his career after under-performing with the Rams. He has the talent to be an above-average starter, but needs to show it.
What does it give the Los Angeles Rams?
This must be a tough trade for Rams brass after the team made Robinson the No. 2 overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft. He just didn't pan out as hoped--struggling mightily at times to protect the quarterback--and Jamon Brown appeared to have overtaken him on the depth chart this off-season. Expect Brown to be the starter moving forward. The return the Rams get for Robinson in this deal is paltry, but at least they save fairly significant salary dollars by moving him.
Fantasy Impact
Don't expect this move to have a major fantasy impact for either the Lions or Rams. Even if Robinson can't play as well as Decker the Detroit offense should remain mostly as productive as ever, and the Rams' offense has nowhere to go but up following last season's dismal production.
