NINERS BOOST RETURNS UNIT WITH BIBBS, TAYLOR Saturday, April 29, 2017
The San Francisco 49ers acquired running back Kapri Bibbs and a 5th-round draft pick in 2017 (Trent Taylor) from the Denver Broncos for a 4th-round draft pick in 2018.
What does it give the San Francisco 49ers?
Bibbs is an intriguing talent who might play his way into several roles with the Niners. He was a prolific touchdown guy in college (with 31 scores in 2013 alone) and he can provide help on special teams as a kick-and-punt returner. He has the goods to push for a regular backup role behind projected featured back Carlos Hyde, so this is a solid pickup by the 49ers. They then used the 5th-rounder (No. 177 overall) to select punt returner and undersized wideout Trent Taylor, adding further depth to their returns unit.
What does it give the Denver Broncos?
The Broncos have two good tailback options in C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker, so Bibbs was a movable asset in their desire to add a 4th-round pick in next year's draft. The 4th-rounder can bring a solid player in 2018.
Fantasy Impact
Bibbs has a bit of appeal as a super-sleeper for very deep running back lists in most 2017 fantasy leagues, but only as a potential pickup during the season (if and when he cements a regular role). Taylor probably isn't fantasy-worthy yet, since his early pro contributions will probably be limited to punt returns.
