ZUTTAH A NICE ADD FOR NINERS' PASS ATTACK Wednesday, March 15, 2017
The San Francisco 49ers acquired center Jeremy Zuttah and a 6th-round draft pick in 2017 (No. 198 overall) from the Baltimore Ravens for a 6th-round draft pick in 2017 (No. 186 overall).
What does it give the San Francisco 49ers?
The Niners' core of offensive personnel has already changed significantly under new head coach Kyle Shanahan, and Zuttah arrives as the team's likely new starting center. Expect him to edge Daniel Kilgore for No. 1 duties, and for him to get up to speed quickly in Shanahan's new attack. While he has size limitations, Zuttah should help boost the San Fran passing game with his protection of the quarterback.
What does it give the Baltimore Ravens?
The Ravens have been in cost-cutting mode so far this off-season and Zuttah is the latest veteran casualty of that approach. The slight move up the draft board in the sixth round won't do much for the Ravens, but getting rid of Zuttah's salary will (at least a little). There's not a clear-cut successor to the starting center job in Baltimore.
Fantasy Impact
Look for San Francisco's quarterback and receivers (Brian Hoyer, Pierre Garcon, Marquise Goodwin, etc.) to get slight increases in fantasy values with Zuttah around to help run Shanahan's pass-happy system. Similarly, look for a slight downgrade for Baltimore's passing and receiving leaders (including Joe Flacco, Mike Wallace, et al).
