DOLPHINS DEAL FOR DEFENSIVE END HAYES Friday, March 10, 2017
The Miami Dolphins acquired defensive lineman William Hayes and a seventh-round draft pick in 2017 from the Los Angeles Rams for a sixth-round draft pick in 2017.
What does it give the Miami Dolphins?
The Dolphins will probably use veteran Hayes, who turns 32 in May, as a rotational defensive end and situational pass rusher. While he started 14 games for the Rams last season, his role in Miami will likely be as more of a backup to starters Cameron Wake and Andre Branch.
What does it give the Los Angeles Rams?
Reports suggest the Rams were expected to release Hayes, so the fact they were able to parlay him into a late-round draft pick upgrade is good business by Los Angeles. Hayes played left end in LA, a position the younger Ethan Westbrooks is expected to take over next season.
Fantasy Impact
Wake, Branch and Westbrooks all have more fantasy value than Hayes in IDP leagues heading into 2017, so don't expect the former Ram to have a major resurgence in Miami.
