PATRIOTS GET D-LINE HELP IN KONY EALY Friday, March 10, 2017
The New England Patriots acquired defensive lineman Kony Ealy and a third-round draft pick in 2017 from the Carolina Panthers for a second-round draft pick in 2017.
What does it give the New England Patriots?
In Ealy, the Patriots add a solid defensive lineman who will likely start at defensive end for them in 2017. The 25-year-old Ealy recorded five sacks in 2016 and totals 14 career sacks in three NFL campaigns. He is young enough to get better now that he has moved to New England.
What does it give the Carolina Panthers?
The Panthers received an early-round draft pick upgrade with this deal, plus they were able to replace Ealy by signing veteran Julius Peppers, who will likely play a similar role to Ealy along Carolina's defensive line in 2017. Still, Carolina may have given up on Ealy a bit too quickly.
Fantasy Impact
Ealy's sack total may increase in New England, and he is expected to see more snaps with his new team. Still, he is not a great option in fantasy IDP leagues. In fact, Peppers might be a better bet for sacks in 2017.
